Another collective cheer from my office! We are so happy for all of you. Go Ellis Go!! Big sister Lila looks like she is doing her part too. Love, The McNabney's
Thanks so much for sharing Ellis' progress to date. It was exciting to see him open his eyes in the video as well. Your family remains in our prayers, especially from Alex. Remember, we are always there for you if you need help.
Christine and james- Thank you for updating everyone with the blog. We have been so concerned about little Ellis. We thank God every day for giving you a son to love and care for - maybe not in the way you had planned but His way. The Martischangs and Webers.
Ellis was born on August 27th, 2009 at 4:23am, weighed 7.2 lbs and was 21 inches. Labor was short; he was born 6 hours after the first contraction. My pregnancy and his birth were uncomplicated except for the presence of meconium during delivery, which he inhaled. James and I were able to hold him for a couple minutes each and then Ellis was taken away for a chest x-ray...and life support. We have been unable to hold him since.
his diagnosis
Ellis was diagnosed with meconium aspiration syndrome (MAS) and rushed to Saint Louis Children's Hospital 14 hours after his birth. Because Ellis is not recovering as quickly as most newborns with MAS do, a lung biopsy and blood tests were performed - these ruled out some rare disorders. At this time, his doctors believe that it is just a severe reaction to the meconium which has contributed to Ellis’ slow recovery, but they admit they are not 100% sure and continue to look for other causes, such as Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension of the Newborn (PPHN).
